Dr Michael Sciriha qualified in Economics with Honours and obtained a Masters degree in 1978. He subsequently obtained a Doctorate of Laws (LLD) in 1984 presenting a thesis entitled “Insurance and Cargo Claims”. He served as Legal Advisor to the Registrar of Courts and his responsibilities included the judicial sale of vessels by auction. He has lectured in Law and Economics at the University of Malta and at the Mediterranean Insurance Training Centre on Liabilities. His track record is related to commercial law and practice, insurance, Criminal Law and Procedure, Planning Policy and Enforcement, Labor and Industrial Law, Construction and Real Estate Litigation, procurement, besides general commercial and legal business consultancy to various commercial companies. Michael is an examiner in Criminal law at various levels at the University of Malta and visiting lecturer.
He has held directorships in influential public limited companies. Dr Sciriha has handled a considerable number of high profile court case before the Criminal Courts and pleads on a regular basis before the superior Criminal Courts.
